This blend consists of roughly 50% topsoil mined from agricultural land as the base, about 40% peat (used instead of straight compost because it is less acidic) for soil nutrition, 5% sand to promote root expansion, and 5% clay for erosion control and water retention.

We do not add a higher content of sand, as while sandier soil may look better and be easier to grade smooth, it provides no nutritional value and retains no water. This means that plants or turf planted in sandy soil will struggle in drier summers, requiring more frequent watering. It will also need more nutrients and fertilizer to maintain healthy growth.
